Welcome, to www.SolidShack.com!

www.Solidshack.com is your new source for 3d models in multiple file formats that should open in almost all different 3d modeling software. Just check and see which file types your 3d design and modeling software is capable of importing and then download the appropriate file format. We here at the Solid Shack hope we can save you hours of time by providing these models to you free of charge. We believe open modeling is key to providing better design work in the long run. The less a user has to labor over the little things, the more time they can spend on getting the job done right. We understand that you don’t want to model everything because it just takes too long and none of us have the time to make things perfect. So with that being said, we here at www.SolidShack.com invite any comments and suggestions toward bettering this site. In the end, we’re just trying to help you out. :)

Most of the models on this site were designed using SolidWorks 3d mechanical design software. Sometimes it is difficult to find ways to convert from one software to another, so if you need any other file formats don’t hesitate to ask. There are many more file formats SolidWorks will convert too. :)

So far this site is very new, so please be patient it may take a while to get these files available to you. There are many files to upload but most of them are only in SolidWorks format so it will take a while to convert them to other file formats as well.

Please come back soon to check on our progress. We are excited to finally make all these models available to you :D

Most of my models are created in Solidworks, however Solid Shack is working on getting free 3d models for people who use other 3D software. Solidworks is a 3d mechanical solid modeling software program, but artistic modeling softwares are good too. Here is a list of some of the software that could be useful: Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, ProEngineer, 3D Studio Max, Maya, Blender, Google Sketch-up, and others. Help is always appreciated. 😛

Old versions of software is acceptable too as long as they can be opened with modern 3D modeling software. This is the reason for multiple file formats, so many people can open the documents easily. But if you have a collection of models that you don’t mind sharing then definitely leave me a message.

I am trying to ultimately develop www.SolidShack.com into a collaborative community. Sharing models is the only way to make this work. It seems like so many of the other sites out there are just trying to sell cheap models for way too much money, and as a result, I doubt many people buy them anyway. Here at Solid Shack, our principle’s are a little different. We believe that providing stuff for free over the internet is really the only way to do business online. The website revenue is only advertisement based. This ad based business model has been repeatedly proven over the last several years with many online websites. So, in summary, we here at Solid Shack want to help you out by providing you with free 3D models that you can use whenever or wherever you wish. I hope you enjoy using the site, and if you like it, the best thing you could do is tell others about it. Thanks!

Remember, feedback is important! As of right now I don’t have a very good grasp as to what kind of models people want, so I am only guessing. I am just creating models of things that I think people might want. If you need more models for something, please leave me a message!
